Abstract

In this paper we analyze the case of women who have not only been victims of violence in the first conjugal union, but who have repeated experience of violence in a second marriage. The analysis is based on data from the National Survey on the Dynamics of Household Relationships 2006 (Mexico), using the subsample of 7,500 women currently married together or who had at least one previous union (with or without violence). The regression analysis’ results clearly indicate that the risk of violence (emotional and/ or physical) against women in the second union is significantly higher for those women who experienced violence at previous union: 5.8 times higher compared to women who had no violence in the first union.
