Movilidad científica y redes de vinculación internacional. El caso de los investigadores uruguayos

Resumen

En este artículo se analizan los determinantes del tamaño de las redes de vinculación internacional que integran investigadores uruguayos, con especial énfasis en el estudio de cómo el estatus migratorio de los investigadores se asocia a la pertenencia a redes internacionales de mayor o menor tamaño. Se trabaja con base en los datos del censo de docentes de la Universidad de la República (Uruguay) de 2015 y se hace un análisis econométrico basado en la estimación de modelos de tipo logit ordinal. Los resultados del análisis indican que el estatus migratorio no se asocia en forma unívoca a la cantidad de países con los que los investigadores desarrollan vinculaciones. El estatus de retornado tiene un efecto significativo y positivo sobre el tamaño de la red de intercambio docente internacional, pero no sobre el tamaño de las redes internacionales de otra naturaleza. Los atributos individuales que sí presentan una asociación clara con el tamaño de las redes internacionales que luego se integran son los que dan cuenta de la trayectoria académica del investigador (consolidación y años desde la obtención del título de doctorado), los cuales tienen un efecto positivo y significativo sobre el tamaño de las redes internacionales de pertenencia.

Abstract

This article analyzes the determinants of the size of the international link networks that make up Uruguayan researchers, with special emphasis on the study of how the migratory status of researchers is associated with belonging to international networks of greater or lesser size. It is based on the data of the census of teachers of the Universidad de la República (Uruguay) of 2015 and an econometric analysis is made based on the estimation of logit ordinal models. The results of the analysis indicate that the migratory status is not unequivocally associated with the number of countries with which the researchers develop links. The status of returnees has a significant and positive effect on the size of the international teacher exchange network, but not on the size of international networks of another nature. The individual attributes that do have a clear association with the size of the international networks are those that indicate the academic trajectory of the researcher (consolidation and years since obtaining the doctorate degree), which have a positive and significant effect on the size of the international networks
